What is commercial solid sheet membrane include?

This category includes products that are made using a specific type of material (such as bitumen) which is typically laid over an existing roof to provide added protection against limited types of environmental hazards like water or physical stress, while also helping to deter leaks/damage from reoccurring — especially when reinforced by the use of adhesives or fasteners.

Special instructions must be followed to install this type of membrane to ensure a waterproof barrier against the outside elements.

What are commercial solid sheet membrane products also called?

Commercial roofing products referred to as solid sheet membrane are also called a Solid Roll roofing product, and also called a Catalogue Roofing product. They can also be titled Roll Roofing or Roofing Sheets, and the same goes for other solid sheet membranes such as flat roofs and self adhered membranes like Kool Seal.

For some products, there will not be any pictures or graphics(i.e., for rolls). These are commonly referred to as "sterile" products and can be quite lucrative if you have the right contacts in the commercial roofing industry.

A product may not specifically state it is a solid roll, it can be said that the material is used for large flat roofs (such as cell phone towers) with lots of surface area. The product will often be called out by its brand name (usually shingles or tiles), but could just say 'roofing'. If you cannot find a manufacturer's website, try calling up one of their distributor websites to see if they sell any roll roofing products for large flat surfaces that must resist fire, water or wind damage.

The different solid sheet membrane products are used primarily on commercial roofing maintenance projects. These roofs will perform very well in climates that experience cold winters such as U-values of .19 or less. In colder climates, they may be used under a waterproofing system as a secondary barrier to protect the waterproofing from ice damage during the winter months. They are also more cost effective, easier to install than open-joint systems and offer protection against leaks due to punctures and impact, installation over shingle roofs, installation over metal roofs and have a service life of about 15 years

What types of protection does commercial roof solid sheet membrane provide?

The different solid sheet membrane products are also used to provide protection from environmental degradation (e.g. UV light). They can be installed in climates with adverse thermal conditions such as hot, humid weather conditions during the summer months and extremely low temperatures in colder regions. They offer architectural flexibility in that they can be used on residential or commercial installations and can be applied over existing shingles, metal surfaces or even concrete substrates without any need for pre-treatment.

They do not require much maintenance once installed because their performance characteristics remain consistent throughout the entire service life of the building envelope product and unlike other roofing solutions which typically only last up to 20 years on a home or office, the service life of the solid sheet membrane products averages about twice that.

They are typically installed using either hot or cold applied adhesives and come in a wide range of textures such as: smooth, sanded, ribbed, patterned, slate rock or imprintable. They can be used for flat roofs and pitched roofs and are usually made from asphalt modified bitumen or polyester resins with mineral fillers.

Specific requirements for the major manufacturers of solid sheet membrane commercial roofing

If you’re using the GAF's Polar Shingle, here’s something to keep in mind: This product is one of the most durable commercial flat roofing choices available on the market today, due to its use of high grade shingles that help it withstand the elements; including extreme winds thanks to patented technology and an enhanced resistance to UV rays. One downside to PVC membranes is that they can only be installed in areas with limited levels of humidity, especially when combining the fact that it's a product known for suffering from increased damage due to the material the shingles are made out of.

If you’re using the Certain-teed's Landmark Premium, here’s something to keep in mind: This product is designed for contractors who need added protection against environmental hazards like water or physical stress — which makes it ideal for use on commercial buildings who need extra weather proofing help when laying down this waterproof membrane over an existing roof without using additional types of supporting materials underneath it. A downside to its use is that these products have been known to experience added wear and tear from the use of harsh weather or extreme high winds — that can end up compromising its ability to protect against waters intrusion during its lifespan.

If you’re using the Certain-teed's Landmark Elite, here’s something to keep in mind: Like Landmark Premium, this product makes a great addition for commercial buildings who need added protection from limited types of environmental hazards like water and physical stress without adding additional supporting materials underneath it. This product has been known to provide decent air proofing properties; especially when combined with its patented technology which offers contractors more ease in tearing off old section s of membrane while also allowing for easier installation/regeneration needs over time. One drawback to this is that these products have been known to experience added wear and tear from harsh weather or extreme high winds , which can end up compromising its ability to protect against water intrusion during its lifespan.

If you’re using the Certain-teed's ProShake here’s something to keep in mind: One of the most popular commercial flat roofing membranes today, this product offers excellent protection from physical stress due to the use of high grade material in its manufacturing process that allows for added resistance to tear off while also providing contractors with an upgraded membrane which improves the ease at which they can lay down new materials without needing to utilize additional supporting materials underneath it. Due to these convenient benefits, there have been various reports regarding problems experienced with installers getting used to utilizing adhesives or fasteners as needed when repairing/replacing damaged sections; especially in areas where extreme winds are common.  Be sure to learn more about Commercial Roofing Spray Applied Polyurethane to have a good understanding of this type of commercial roofing.
